Surmounted

Verb

Overcome, exceed, surpass (mengatasi, melampaui, mengungguli)

A personality profile feature, also known as a profile, is an in-depth look at a person’s lifestyle, characteristics, emotions, hobbies, appearance, achievement, success, or obstacles surmounted in life.

My learning strategies

The first thing I start with reading the material, then I will learn by listening to the point of view of the lecturer or speaker about the material. Then I study again to understand the material that has been discussed.

Synopsis (My thoughts: what I learned):

In the paper and PPT from Group 6 with the title “Writing a Personality Profile and a News Feature”, I got knowledge about the definition of a personality profile also known as a profile is an in-depth look at a person’s lifestyle, characteristics, emotions, hobbies, appearance, achievement, success, or obstacles surmounted in life. This type of feature gives interesting information about the person’s life, rather than just the person’s opinions. Meanwhile, the news feature is your typical essay that says facts, events, or processes accompanied by historical explanations of occurrence, the nature of the case, the process of its formation, and how it works. Both of them have their structure, steps, and lists of information that need to be written.

Reflection  (My feelings: What I will do differently next time)

All the information is very important and I got a lot of knowledge about the news feature and personality profiles in the news. I have developed my understanding of this material and I now realize how important it is to pay attention to certain things in writing a news story, especially in personality profiles and news features. Because if we don't pay attention to this, the news we make will affect its validity and accuracy according to the structures of each material. I learned a lot from this material and realize that there are still many shortcomings in making good news that are worth reading for readers. By studying this material, I can correct deficiencies that are still not sufficient by paying attention to the structures, steps, and list of information of the materials.

“News Gathering and Interviewing: Conducting the Interview”

“News Gathering and Interviewing: Conducting the Interview” paper from group 3

legitimate

Adjective

Legal : sah

Reporters

should be very careful to choose only legitimate Internet news sites or official sources.

My Learning strategies

I collect my intentions first, after that I start reading the paper and I read it over and over again when there is a vocabulary that I don't understand I will translate it so I get new vocabulary.

Synopsis (My thoughts: what I learned):

Group 3 paper “News Gathering and Interviewing: Conducting the Interview”, states that Use the Ws and H to form relevant questions that will get the interviewee to open up with you. The what, how, and why are especially good for this because these questions cause the interviewee to explain something to you, and that means he or she will be speaking in entire sentences, possibly even paragraphs, rather than in one-word responses.

Reflection  (My feelings: What I will do differently next time)

For me, the most useful experience was knowing that using 5W+1H in interviews can make the interviewee open up to us. Before, I thought we can just ask the interviewee not by using 5W+1H. but when we use that, it will make the interview go well and can find the answer better.

News story structure :  News Writing (news writing rubric) paper from group 2

emphasizes

Verb

highlight

menekankan

Soft news emphasizes more on the details of the news.

My Learning strategies

First, I’m doing a quick scan on the paper of group 2, then I start to read the content. Actually, my strategies are not so different from the previous one. I read, then I stop a little bit when I saw a stranger's words that I didn’t know really well. After I know the meaning of the word, I keep continued to read until I finished.

Synopsis (My thoughts: what I learned):

In group 2 paper “Soft news emphasizes more on the details of the news”, states that Soft news, in general, is news that in terms of writing structure is relatively more flexible, dynamic, and in terms of content is not too heavy like other news. Soft news in general is not too straightforward, not rigid, or strict, especially in terms of time and sometimes it will not easily get stale and can be read at any time.

Reflection  (My feelings: What I will do differently next time)

For me, the most useful experience was knowing there are types of news, which are soft and hard. Before, I thought there is no kind of such thing as that in news. Also, I just know that there is a news that is not straightforward and strict, it is called Soft News. I think Soft News is for when we want to read some news but not too heavy like Hard News. But my brain still like don’t want to see news like Soft News, because in my brain news must be like Hard News. But I guess, now I need to take that fact, I can’t be like that.

My Learning Strategies

First, I learn the material seriously, because I can’t understand the material if I am not focused. Then I am making some notes to remind me about the material. And the last I search the word that I don’t know in a dictionary or google for better understanding.

Synopsis (My thoughts: what I learned):

In their paper of group 1 “A matter of facts: The News Values and Elements”, states that Journalists are always on the lookout for strong stories that are in the public interest. Their knowledge of news values will enable them to select stories that can boost their circulation or media ratings. Those responsible for deciding the news agenda are sometimes called “gatekeepers”. Gatekeeping takes place at many levels – the newspaper or broadcast station’s owner, its editor, and senior journalists. Lowering down the hierarchy, reporters will also exercise similar judgments when they choose who to interview and what parts of their reply should be included in their report.

Reflection  (My feelings: What I will do differently next time)

All the information conveyed by group 1 is new to me. makes me want to know more about how to keep a good journalist. What's more, it's very important for me in this 6th semester who is often lazy.

My Learning Strategies:

Following that, I may consult with some of my friends, and if their responses are unsatisfactory, I will undertake a Google search.

Synopsis (My thoughts: what I learned):

In his article “Journalism,” 2020, states that there were four factors in the professionalism of Journalism . (According to Brian Duignan of Journalism, This pattern was influenced by four major factors: 1. a rising feeling of social duty on the part of journalists, 2. specialized journalism education, 3. a developing literature dealing with the history, issues, and tactics of mass communication, and 4. an expanding sense of social obligation on the part of journalists.

Reflection  (My feelings: What I will do differently next time)

For me, knowing the meaning of journalism was the most valuable experience. I’ve gained a better grasp of the history of journalism. After learning about the history of journalism, I realized that it existed many years before. Because I understand the history of journalism, this information is useful to me in the profession. Because I am not yet comfortable talking to strangers, I will need to endeavor to be more confident and fearless. I had previously overlooked the fact that being a journalist was not an easy task. Alternatively, this might be connected to the information that I lacked previously. This is comparable to when I was too lazy to study more since I believed I didn’t need to know about it. Like history things this reveals there is a lot of amazing people out there.
